A 29-year-old construction worker, Rondell Clarke of Lot 413 Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was fatally shot on Saturday night in what police are treating as an alleged murder.
Clarke was reportedly shot between 19:30 and 19:45 hrs at Second Street, Foulis. He was initially found conscious by police ranks and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted to the critical surgical bay. However, he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 20:20 hrs while undergoing treatment.
Police have arrested a 25-year-old male security officer employed with a private security firm in connection with the incident. His licensed firearm was confiscated, and he is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.
Clarke’s body has been taken to the GPHC mortuary, where it has been placed in storage pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
