A 53-year-old housewife and a 24-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday evening during an attack at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, police said.
Police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ are investigating an alleged robbery under arms which occurred at about 19:00 hrs at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, involving the two residents of the said address.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had returned home and were approaching the door when they were confronted by two masked men, both armed with what appeared to be handguns.
The suspects allegedly robbed the 24-year-old woman of a cellular phone, while the 53-year-old woman was struck to the forehead with a handgun and relieved of a purse containing a cellular phone and $20,000 in Guyana currency.
Further enquiries disclosed that the suspects then entered the lower flat of the residence, where they confronted the 53-year-old woman’s young daughter and younger siblings and robbed them of a tablet computer and a cellular phone.
The suspects then left the premises, joined two riders on separate black XR motorcycles, and made their escape in a northern direction.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
