GCCI raises concerns over foreign investors’ exclusion of Guyanese businesses

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has raised concerns over what it described as the growing exclusion of local businesses from supply chains across several industries, urging foreign investors operating in Guyana to increase the use of local companies and labour.

In a statement, the Chamber said it has consistently advocated for greater participation by Guyanese businesses and workers in sectors benefiting from the country’s rapid economic expansion.

The GCCI stressed that opportunities linked to the extraction and development of Guyana’s natural resources should not bypass local participation, noting that the inclusion of Guyanese businesses remains essential to national development.

The chamber also called on foreign investors to avoid excluding locals from opportunities generated through their operations in Guyana.
