Construction worker charged after illegal gun discovered during threatening behaviour investigation

A 37-year-old Blairmont Settlement man who was allegedly found with a suspected revolver and ammunition during a police investigation into threatening behaviour has been charged and is expected to be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to the offence.

Jason Rampersaud, a construction worker of Lot 4 Blairmont Settlement, West Coast Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the charge was read to him and he pleaded guilty. He was remanded to prison.

The charge arose from an incident on June 14 at Kendall Village, West Coast Berbice.

Police reported that officers were investigating a complaint of threatening behaviour in the community when they allegedly discovered a suspected revolver and a round of ammunition in Rampersaud’s possession.

According to investigators, Rampersaud was unable to produce a firearm licence when questioned. He was arrested at the scene, and the suspected firearm and ammunition were seized and lodged.

The matter was adjourned to July 8, 2026, at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court for sentencing.
