Police investigate Regent Street shooting

Police are investigating a shooting incident on Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown, on Monday evening, which left a 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The injured man, Quacy Jandoo, who has no fixed address, was reportedly near Classic Styles Boutique around 21:45 hrs when he was confronted by 38-year-old Ryan Weekes, a Supernumerary Constable attached to KGM Security Services.

Police stated that an argument ensued between the two men, during which Weekes allegedly discharged his service weapon, striking Jandoo in the left thigh. Jandoo reportedly ran into a nearby yard before being found by police in an area known locally as a “drug block.” He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and admitted in stable condition.

Weekes told investigators that he had observed Jandoo attempting to cut a GTT cable with a hacksaw. Weekes claimed that Jandoo attacked him with a cutlass after refusing to stop, which led him to fire his weapon.

The firearm has been seized, and Weekes is cooperating with police investigations.

Kaneville man fatally shot during hunting trip

A 29-year-old man, Lakeram Persaud, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was fatally shot on Saturday during a hunting trip at Friendship backdam, police said.

Rockie Blackman, 64, of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, is in police custody assisting with the investigation. Police said the incident occurred while Persaud, Blackman, and two other friends, Wayne Gordon, 58, and Jacob Summer, 29, were hunting in the backdam when they were allegedly attacked by African bees.

According to authorities, the group scattered in different directions, and Gordon and Summer reported hearing a gunshot. Persaud was later found in a trench with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. An empty shotgun casing was recovered nearby.

Persaud’s body was taken to Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Blackman, Gordon, and Summer were arrested and tested for gunshot residue.

Investigations are ongoing.

Taxi driver gunned down in Victory Valley

Police are probing the death of Ron Clarke, a 30-year-old taxi driver of William Street, Kitty, and Lot 76 Wisroc Housing Scheme, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a drain at Victory Valley, Wismar Linden around 19:15 hrs on Thursday.

According to a 19-year-old construction worker, he was walking along a street in the area when he spotted Clarke lying motionless in the drain. The teen raised an alarm, and Clarke was taken by a passing vehicle to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr Ross.

An initial examination revealed that Clarke sustained multiple gunshot wounds: five to the right arm, two to the groin, one to the right hip, and six to the right thigh. Investigators also found a warhead lodged in his underwear.

Crime scene ranks processed the area and discovered ten 9mm spent shells and a pair of blood-stained black and white Adidas slippers on the southern side of the street. The items were collected and lodged for forensic examination.

The street where the incident occurred runs east to west and is lined with snack bars and shops, all of which were closed at the time. The body was taken to Jetsco Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Several residents have since been questioned as investigations continue.

Late-night shooting in Buxton leaves two dead, several injured

Two persons are dead and several others injured following a shooting incident which occurred at 23:47 hrs on Tuesday at Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, by person(s) unknown.

Police are investigating the alleged murders of Leon McFarlene, a 17-year-old unemployed resident of Lot 71 Middle Walk, Buxton, and Mark Anthony Correia, a 38-year-old businessman of Lot 75 Republic Drive, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, and the attempted murder committed on Linden Adams, a 60-year-old unemployed resident of Side Line Dam, Buxton; Alwin Fiffee, a 54-year-old resident of Middle Walk, Buxton; Davel Talbot, a 26-year-old Special Constable of Middle Walk, Buxton; Akeem Tuman, an 18-year-old resident of Middle Walk, Buxton; Sherwin Nero, a 35-year-old from Friendship, East Coast Demerara; and a 17-year-old male of African descent (name withheld) from Middle Walk, Buxton.

Enquiries disclosed that the two deceased and the injured persons were at a shop owned by Asha Robinson, a 41-year-old businesswoman of Lot 69 Middle Walk, Buxton, playing cards and dominoes when, at about 23:00 hrs on July 15th, she retired to bed, leaving the mentioned persons in the shop.

The businesswoman stated that at about 23:47 hrs, she heard several loud explosions (sounding like gunshots) and went outside, where she saw Mark Correia in a slumped position at the table with what appeared to be blood oozing from his mouth, nose, and back. She raised an alarm, and public-spirited persons responded and assisted in taking the other injured males to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where Leon McFarlene was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body of McFarlene was examined, and suspected gunshot wounds were seen on the right hand, chest, face, forearm, and right foot. His body was escorted to the GPHC Mortuary for storage and post-mortem examination. Correia’s body was subsequently escorted to the Enmore Regional Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. He was examined, and suspected gunshot injuries were seen on his back, left ears, left shoulder, chest, right palm, left jaw, and one above the right eye. His body was later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage and post-mortem examination.

The others who sustained suspected gunshot injuries are currently admitted patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, receiving treatment. The scene was processed by investigators, and forty spent shells were recovered—comprising one .40, twenty-nine 5.56×45, and ten 7.62×39. Four projectiles and two fragments were also found on the ground in the shop. These were photographed, packaged, and lodged.

Based on additional information received, a silver-coloured motorcar bearing registration number PVV 7616 or 7661 was seen circling the area. This was the car that the suspects reportedly used to carry out the attack, after which they rejoined the car and made good their escape. Several persons were questioned, and certain information was received indicating that one of the injured persons has an ongoing problem with a gang referred to as ‘Team Diamond’. That injured person is currently under Police guard.

Man fatally shot by police during armed confrontation in Amelia’s Ward

A 26-year-old man was fatally shot by police late Monday night during an armed confrontation at his home in Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Dead is Shamar Prince, an unemployed resident of Wall Street, Amelia’s Ward, who was being sought in connection with an armed robbery committed earlier that day on a Chinese businessman.

Police said that at approximately 23:45 hrs on Monday, ranks on mobile patrol duty acted on information and went to Prince’s residence — the lower flat of a two-storey concrete house. Prince lived there with his 22-year-old girlfriend, Whitney Brazilio, a cook.

According to reports, Brazilio opened the western door and spoke with the ranks, but moments later, Prince emerged from the north-western back door and discharged rounds at one of the officers, forcing him to take cover.

Prince then ran out of the apartment and continued firing at the police. The ranks returned fire, striking him. He fell to the ground at the side of the yard.

When the police approached, Prince was found lying on his back clad in a multi-coloured shirt and black denim pants. Next to his body, police recovered a .38 revolver with three live rounds and three spent shells, along with a box containing twenty-five .38 rounds of ammunition.

A black shoulder bag was also found strapped across his shoulder. It contained a national ID card bearing his name, a Blu cellphone, $1,040 Guyana currency, a knife, and five grams of a whitish rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.

Prince was placed in a police vehicle and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he died while receiving medical treatment.

Police observed five circular wounds on his body: one to the left side of the head, three to the left upper shoulder, and one to the right side of the chest.

All recovered items, including the firearm, ammunition, and suspected narcotics, were sealed and lodged to be sent for forensic examination. Prince’s body is currently at the Linden Hospital Complex Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police were, at the time, investigating a robbery under arms report involving 38-year-old Chinese businessman Long Xing of Mackenzie, Linden. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday and is among a series of recent armed robberies targeting Chinese business establishments in the area.

Shopkeeper fatally shot in Agricola

Romel Bollers, a 33-year-old shopkeeper of Lot 120 Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, was fatally shot on Monday morning in Titus Street, Agricola.

The incident occurred around 08:30 hrs on June 30, 2025. According to police in Regional Division 4A, Bollers had left his home at about 08:15 hrs to feed pigs at Lot 166 Titus Street when he was attacked.

His sister told investigators that shortly after he left, she overheard people in the area saying he had been shot. She rushed to the location and found him lying motionless on his back in front of a pig pen, bleeding from injuries to his abdomen and back.

An ambulance from the Eccles Fire Station transported Bollers to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the body bore gunshot wounds to the right shoulder, abdomen, and right elbow. It has been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending.

The scene was processed by ranks from CID Headquarters. One 9mm spent shell was recovered.

Investigations are ongoing.

Fatal shooting of Clarke was committed by security guard

The fatal shooting of Rondell Clarke on Sunday at Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was committed by security guard Messiah Mussendeen, police say.

Investigators recovered a damaged metal fragment from the body of the deceased during a post-mortem examination.

The fragment was immediately forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Crime Laboratory for ballistic analysis.

“Following a comprehensive examination, ballistic experts concluded that the metal fragment recovered from Clarke’s body was discharged from an AR rifle that was in the possession of Mussendeen, a security officer employed by Force Security Solutions,” the release said.

Additionally, ballistic experts were able to match a 9mm spent shell casing recovered from the scene to a 9mm pistol that was in the possession of Devon Boucher, another security officer employed by Force Security Solutions.

“In light of these findings, the Guyana Police Force wishes to make it unequivocally clear that the fatal shot which resulted in the death of Rondell Clarke was discharged from the AR rifle in the possession of Messiah Mussendeen,” the release concluded.

Construction worker succumbs to gunshot wounds, suspect arrested

A 29-year-old construction worker, Rondell Clarke of Lot 413 Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was fatally shot on Saturday night in what police are treating as an alleged murder.

Clarke was reportedly shot between 19:30 and 19:45 hrs at Second Street, Foulis. He was initially found conscious by police ranks and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted to the critical surgical bay. However, he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 20:20 hrs while undergoing treatment.

Police have arrested a 25-year-old male security officer employed with a private security firm in connection with the incident. His licensed firearm was confiscated, and he is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.

Clarke’s body has been taken to the GPHC mortuary, where it has been placed in storage pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.

Linden man hospitalised from shot in eye

Lindener Shirlon Hollingsworth is currently hospitalised after he was reportedly shot in his right eye when police allegedly opened fire at his home during a chase on Tuesday night.
He has since undergone surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to his wife, Kisha Hollingsworth, who gave an account during a Facebook Live broadcast, the incident occurred at approximately 22:00 hrs on Tuesday while her husband was about to secure his shop, which is situated in their One Mile yard.
She recalled hearing a commotion outside, and upon looking out, she saw police officers chasing two young men.
“When I peeked out, I saw two boys in the yard… apparently the police were after the boys who ran into the yard. I heard them running from the front and heading to the back, and Terry was tiptoeing at the back of the shop to go inside,” she recounted.Rather than going into their home as she advised, she said her husband chose instead to enter an adjacent house in the same yard, which is owned by his brother, and locked the door.

“Terry said when he opened the door slightly to peek out, the police pushed the door and looked him in the eye—and shot him in the eye,” she claimed.
She added that the incident left her traumatised, as she and her son were forced to hide under a bed in fear for their lives.
“I took my son and said, ‘Come, let’s go under the bed,’ because the police continued shooting around the house… I was fearful for my life, lying under the bed calling every single person I know,” she said.

Shirlon Hollingsworth was later rushed to receive medical attention.
Meanwhile, Regional Divisional Commander Kurleigh Simon, when contacted by Ignite News, confirmed that Hollingsworth had been shot during a police operation to clear the roadway on Tuesday night. He said the matter is currently under investigation.
“The young man never reported anything to the police, but we received the information and began investigating from last night. The police were clearing the road that people were blocking and where they were throwing objects at the police. So, if he’s claiming he was shot by police, he had to be in very close proximity to them,” Simon explained. “The police were clearing the main thoroughfare in the One Mile, Half Mile area.”

Residents in the Half Mile and One Mile communities reported hearing gunshots and experiencing tear gas throughout Tuesday night.
Earlier in the day, protesters had blocked the main access road into the communities, disrupting the free flow of traffic and livelihoods. Some protesters reportedly demanded a fee before removing the blockades to allow vehicles to pass.
Several businesses and schools in Linden have remained closed since the incident.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, Region 10 leaders urged those engaged in unlawful acts to desist.
While expressing support for justice in the cases of Adrianna Younge, Ronaldo Peters, and Keon Fogenay, the leaders strongly condemned acts of lawlessness, including looting, property destruction, and violence.

“We are profoundly disturbed by the actions of those who, under the cover of protest, have chosen a path of lawlessness—looting businesses, destroying property, and undermining the very spirit of the cause,” the statement read.
The leaders also urged the community to be vigilant against those who might exploit the current climate of grief and frustration to create division and unrest, calling on citizens to remain united in purpose and peace.

Sheriff Security guard ‘accidentally’ shoots self in foot, firearm seized

Police have seized the service firearm from Lionel Duke, 22, a Supernumerary Constable employed by Sheriff Security, after he claimed he accidentally shot himself in the foot this morning.

The incident allegedly occurred at about 02:00 hrs at the Gafoor’s compound in Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

Police, in a report, stated that Duke was on duty at the location mentioned, armed with a security service 9MM pistol and one magazine containing 10 live 9MM rounds of ammunition.

Duke said he went into the washroom, which is situated on the eastern side of the compound, and while there, he took out the firearm from his pants pocket to clear it (for no reason). A shot went off and hit him on his right foot, below the knee.

Duke said he then called a friend, a 23-year-old businessman from Parafaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, via cellphone, who came and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is presently seeking medical attention.

Police visited the scene at around 04:30 hrs this morning, and one 9MM spent shell was found in the washroom area.

The firearm, along with nine 9MM rounds of ammunition, was also seized and lodged at the Turkeyen Police Station.

Investigations are in progress.
